Thats' the crappy part of moving...but unfortunately the word filter is finicky with what words it catches. Unless you ca figure out what words are triggering it, that blasted white page will come up. Even fr-ee will do it.

So why won't they fix this issue? Here they have a support forum, many forum admins are complaining about this and they do nothing? I would upgrade if I thought we'd get any tech support when needed. But if they can't support a free board why should I pay them to ignore us on a paid-for board?

SheWolf how about starting your own forum service? Lets us all know so we can join. We get more advice from you then the very people who are supposed to be here helping.

Sorry I can't be more informative as to the who's and why's when it comes to tech support. What I do know is: when you upgrade, you will be upgrading to a new server not makeforum's server. That means you will be dealing with a whole different support team, one who is with the new server you paid for to have the forum moved to. MakeForum is only a free server. When you upgrade, you will get access to everything about your forum once the transfer is completed. MakeForum will no longer be in charge of the server for your forum, so when you need tech support in the event of server crashing, or possibly a re-install, the tech support with the new server will be dealing with you, not MakeForum.
As for me hosting my own stuff such as this, I haven't got the resources. My biggest threat is my kid unplugging the works when I'm not paying attention and having the whole system shut off. LOL!!

We get the 500 error and no wrong words were used, the posts are not long and sometimes if we try and unsticky a thread it pops over to the white screen that says 500.

As for upgrading that's not an option for us. Unless we mail in a cashier's check or money order. Most other free boards that use the phpBB system don't have this issue. I'd hate to move our board again because we've already moved it once and we'd lose all our threads and posts.

Please send me your post with 500 error.

Hi~
It occurs when a poster attempts to post a new thread or a post but not always. It's very sporadic.

One problem that seems to not be sporadic is the following thread that we are trying to unsticky. It refuses to do that and pops over to the 500 page.

Thank you. I would appreciate any assistance you could offer. hello2

Well thanks for all that info. You definitely cleared some things up for me and I have a better idea on how things work. icon_smile

No problem. It's kind of like stepping stones. You start off in the basement, find out the house has mice, and then exterminate. alien

Grrrr
I will not be blackmailed into paying to upgrade, that's outrageous.
By the way, did anyone else notice when they signed up to this forum that they suddenly got loads of spam?
It could be coincidence but i've always been very careful and had the spam down to 1 a day.
Within 2 days of joining here I get the lot: r.0.l.e.x watches, c.a.n.a.d.i.a.n p.h.a*macy, the l*ttery ones, e.bay, paypal and countless others.
I mean it COULD be coincidence.............

(p.s, my profile is set to never display email addy)

That's a rather interesting observation. I never even thought of that! I wasn't trying to persuade you to upgrade by any means. I was just saying that if you wanted FULL control over your forum, that is the only way to do it.

Yes, I have thought of that as well, but who knows.
As for the spam, I have had no problem with that, but I know others have. so I don't know if it is connected or not.

Hey thanks for the tip off - unfortunately I HAD to give my real addy in order to subscribe to this forum (wish I hadn't now)

She-Wolf - that was not aimed at you (re uprgade) but in general. It feels like we're gonna be bombarded with problems unless we pay...
As far as I can tell, you're only giving advice (unless I missed something)

Another 5 spams today. I was getting practically none at all for about a year..........

Oh well...only one way to find out for sure.

I wish I could help more in the actual fixing, but I'm only a mod. Seems like tech support could use a few extra hands these days.
